Fundraising

Do you like planning events? If you're not a detailed person or don't have the time, don't worry. We can also use you to help staff them. The only requirement is that you have to like people (at least a little bit) and most importantly animals. With events like the Mutt Strut and the Wine and Cheese Silent Auction, we always need help with our fundraising events.

Office Help

Put that bubbly personality to use. Greet our potential adopters at the door; help the staff with data entry and filing records. We would need your help the most during regular office hours. Ideally, we would like someone to volunteer four hours a week. A bubbly personality is not a must but some very basic office skills are essential.

Walking Dogs

The dog days of summer are here and our pups are ready to hit the pavement. If you have a good pair of sneakers and have the energy, we could definitely use you. This is such a wonderful volunteer opportunity because it's on your own time frame. The only requirement is that you take and return the dog during normal business hours and you meet at the shelter for a little one-on-one training before you walk, then you're off.

Foster Care

Can you open your heart and home temporarily to one of our precious faces? All types of animals are always in need of foster care. Read an issue of the WCHS newsletter, Animal Corner , for one family's views on foster care. If you are interested in fostering, fill out the Foster Care Application and return to the shelter.

Cleaning at the Shelter

Can you imagine over 100 pets in one location at a time? That's what it's like at the shelter, every day. It requires cleaning almost every hour. There is always something that can stand to be cleaned - again.

Grooming the Animals

Shelter pooches love to be groomed and the kitties love it, too! The shelter staff takes very good care of the animals, bathing and brushing them often, although it sure would be nice to have some volunteers help.

Memberships and Donations

Volunteers are needed to plan and implement strategies for increasing monetary donations to WCHS. This would include stuffing envelopes, delivering donation information to various locations in Wood County and contributing to mailings in which WCHS solicits donations.

Community Shares Representation

We are currently looking for a volunteer to attend monthly meetings and serve as the liaison between WCHS and the Northwest Ohio Community Shares initiatives. This volunteer would have the opportunity to be as involved as he or she would like.

Public Relations

If you have a flare for writing, we can use you to write for Animal Corner. Would you like to help maintain the Web site? We also need someone to help maintain a local bulletin board that highlights animals in which individuals may adopt.

Community Education

Do you love animals? How about people and kids, too? You would be a great volunteer for community education. WCHS visits senior centers, classrooms and community events on a regular basis. You should consider joining this team, too.

Maintenance

Are you good at fixing thing up around the house? The shelter need volunteers who are good at working on things both inside and the building and on the grounds.

Obedience Training

The well behaved dogs usually get adopted first. Someone who possesses animal training skills is desparately needed to work with the dogs to ensure that they are well behaved so that they can get the homes that they deserve.
