WCHS Volunteer Tips

  • Please wear older clothes. The animals don't care what you look like.
  • Always wear closed toe shoes and never sandals.
  • If you choose to do Community Service through the WCHS shelter you cannot choose specific duties. Duties will be assigned to you and will mainly consist of cleaning the shelter. If for some reason, you are unable to complete your Community Service hours at the WCHS shelter, you are permitted to leave and complete your hours at another facility.
  • Volunteers must sign in at the office. A volunteer must also sign out. This allows us to track the number of hours that our volunteeers put in at the shelter and related activities for grant applications and other initiatives. If you are performing Community Service, it is your responsibility to keep track of your own hours in addition to the hour tracking done by the shelter.
  • Children must be at least eight years old to volunteer at the shelter, even when supervised by an adult unless otherwise authorized by the shelter manager.
  • The shelter is a non-smoking facility. This includes the shelter building and all shelter grounds.
  • The majority of volunteers are needed on weekday mornings. Please make the shelter management aware of your schedule when applying to volunteer.
  • Volunteers must be able to work efficiently and without supervision.
